Jeffreys Bay, one of our planets most sickest reeling right handers you will ever get to surf! Us Eastern Cape bra's are spoilt to have this wave breaking right on our doorstep and we probably take it for-granted. You will mostly find more surfers out in the lineup from all corners of the globe rather than locals.
In a bid to appreciate how fortunate we are, the DeadReckCrew put together a small strike team and made the 4hour drive from East London to JBay to score some swell that was surely on it's way!
We got hold of Happy Waves for our accommodation needs and luckily we managed to get squeezed into their mostly booked up calendar.
Situated about 30m away from the Lower Point car park, boasting 5 rooms that sleep 15 people, we were spoilt rotten.
On arrival we checked out Supers and the tide was full high and sets were rolling in a bit too slow for our liking so we headed off 3 minutes around the corner to Magna's where we found a fun A-frame peak. On a setting sun we scrambled to get out there and to surf out our stiff travel legs.
After an hour's surf with no crowds we needed to chow and we needed good chow! There are many great restaurants in JBay but the one that will always catch the surfers eye (and appetite) is Nina's!
Nina's was originally founded by the Smith family in East London in 1989 and took their success to JBay in 2010.
After devouring a few lamb burgers and probably the most tender steak in the world it was back to our surf digs and an early night for an early morning start!
Although there are only two Johnsons out there, for the sake of what this really means, we have added another one, Slummies surfers will know what this means.
Waking up before sunrise and heading to Supertubes it really just felt like East London. The usual routine of the Johnsons sitting in the lineup before it's it's even light enough to see a wave and PdV biding his time somewhere in a barrelling pit getting his angles setup before the sun rises followed by the the more sensible surfers walking up the beach for the paddle out.

We surfed and we surfed until we just couldn't surf anymore. The swell we had hoped for never arrived but that's ok because even at 3 foot, Jeffreys Bay produces waves you will not be able to find anywhere near as good elsewhere!
If you are thinking of a little surf getaway, make sure to visit Happy Waves and check if accommodation is available, you will not regret securing this spot. Board racks, wetsuit drying racks, table tennis, DSTV, super fast Wifi, indoor and outdoor fireplaces... it's a surfers dream.
