The notorious Shane Thorne, one of the most powerful surfers in South Africa. Having been on the surf scene from just a grom, Shane has worked in and out of the industry.
I y'am what I y'am:
Grew up in Durban and lived on the beachfront. My first introduction to the ocean was with a friend of mine whom I met at Karate at the age of 9. His name is Alistar Taylor and who later on became a multiple South African body boarding champion as well as a World Champion. I sucked at body boarding and used to get frustrated why these guys who stood up on surfboards would always go faster than me, so I attempted surfing at the age of 11 and was hooked. Possibly the best decision of my life… The rest is history!!!
An ideal day?
Mon – Fri sucks as I have a fulltime job yet on Fridays I finish work at 2pm and then go coach some of the little rippers in Kommetjie for a couple of hours. Weekends and holidays are the best as I get to surf with my groms and do a little coaching as well. My small wave surfing is improving as my groms don’t surf anything bigger than 3 feet for now. LOL!!!
Aspirations?
Find more time to surf other than just weekends and go on more trips to tropical and cooking surf destinations with a good crew of surf stoked friends.
Dead Reckoning Clothing?
Because it’s roots are formed with the ocean and I love the brands style which it portrays.
Parting Words?
Keep the passion burning for what you love and the fire will never burn out! Set goals which may seem a little unrealistic but work even harder towards them and you may just accomplish even more than what you ever believed.
